These are a few of my favorite {fall} things..

November 21, 2011

Maybe it’s the fact that we’re spending our first of many “seasons” in our new house… or that we don’t want to crank the heat in our 1930’s house and need to snuggle and consume warm things for our survival….but I am feelin’ some major cheer around here. As much as I want to jump right into Christmas…this fall has been beautiful and I don’t want to wish it away. Here are some of our fall must-have’s that we’ve enjoyed the past 2 months.

Orange!

Loving the color orange everywhere right now! We kept the fall decor pretty simple… some mini pumpkins and dried Chinese lantern plants from the farmers market on the mantel, our mumpkin display outside, and our transformed lanterns on the dining room table.

* Quick design tip* See the table runner that the lanterns are sitting on? Yep – just a strip of burlap from the fabric store for about $1 with some liquid check on the edges to keep it from unraveling.

Cracklin’ fire

We’ve managed to have our first fire without smoking out the whole house…success! I am looking forward to lots of fires in the fireplace this winter…we only have about 6-tons of wood to burn from the-day-the-tree-crunched-our-garage.

Soup / Chilli

Nick is the master Chilli chef in this household and we are loving this one right now. Loaded with veggies and super healthy…especially after we load the top with sour cream, avocado and cheese! We’re from Wisconsin – what do you expect 😉

Aveda tea

Is there really anything better than a cup of hot tea on a cold evening?..Ok maybe a big glass of red wine..close second..

Plastic window coverings

Definatly not something that I want to snuggle up to – but helpful in our house. We have lots and lots of old windows and these 3M Window Insulator kits have done wonders with the cooler drafty air since nick installed them. Unlike the ghetto flimsy plastic ones we would put in our old college houses, these suckers are tight to the window, keep out the drafts, and you can’t even see that they are on.

Apple – anything

Wall flowers. Candles. Hand soap. Crisp. Fruit. Printed on hand towels. Computers. Juice. Pie. Anything apples = yumm.

I made this dish for a party this weekend and it was so tasty and made the kitchen smell all cozy.

Chunky Knit Blanket

The perfect solution to cold, rainy, snowy, windy weather. Do you think I could make this? Adding knitting onto my bucket list.

What about you? What are your go-to fall favorites. Get out there and enjoy this beautiful season before it’s gone!
